Reminder!

Don't forget!

Letters from Home Stamp Class

Letters from Home Stamp Class

Benefiting Operation Write Home

Operation Write Home is an organization that sends homemade blank cards to the military men and women serving in Afghanistan and Iraq. The Service men and women then pick up the blank cards at their unit or at the USO, free of charge, and use the cards to write home with. Having been a military wife, I know that getting a letter from your loved one deployed down range is just as important as a soldier getting a letter from home.

When: April 24, 2010 at 2:00pm-4:00 pm

Where: Buchanan Methodist Church, Texarkana

Cost: Nothing, but it would be great if you brought a snack to share.*

*This is a free class and I am asking everybody to donate their cards to Operation Write Home, but if you would like to keep a card you make, that is fine but I will charge $1 for it.

I haven't forgot you.

I haven't forgotten you, I have been really busy lately.  I have 3 pageant dress orders, some sundress orders, a card class on Saturday, and yesterday I recieved a big rushed repair order for 3 pageant outfits.  I have just been busy.  I have a card to put up, I just haven't had time to post it.

Color Renovation

Stampin' Up! is revamping its colors.  There are going to be new colors, old colors, and same colors.  I wanted to share this with you because I think it is so awesome.  I just can't wait.  I thought you would like to take a look at the new colors and see which ones are going so here we go.
As you will notice several of my favorites are going.  Yes this will be sad, but then again change is always sad, but it is good too.  Just look at what all we are getting.

Aren't these just awesome colors?  I am really excited and with names like Cherry Cobbler and Baja Breeze, who wouldn't be?  It is like a vacation and dessert all in one.

Hope you are as excited as I am.  If like me some of your favorites are saying goodbye,  you need to stock up on ink refills and paper to match  maybe some back up pens.  You can do this at mistismemories.stampinup.net

Enjoy your Friday.

Next blog candy give away will be...

Okay,  I figured everybody loved the chances to win free stuff.  So here's the deal,  I am going to give away more freebies at the end of May.  I haven't decided what I am giving away yet, but it will be great!  So here is the deal.  I am opening it back up so Karen and Monica our recent winners can play too. We are going to do a challenge.

Here are the rules:
  • The person or groups of people that make the most cards between now and Memorial Day, May 31, 2010 to donate to Operation Write Home will win a stamp set of your choosing from Stampin' Up $21.95 or less, a classic Stamp pad of your color choice $5.95, and a paper pack up to $7.50.
  • Second place will get a special card kit from me with everything but the stamp in it.
  • Special Award to be given to the most creative card.
  • All entries have to be donated to Operation Write Home.
  • All entries will need to be at my house by June 11, 2010. You get them to me and I will send them to OWH along with my cards and cards from a class I am doing to benefit Operation Write Home.
  • All cards need to be finished size 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" any fold you want.
  • If using dark colors as your base please add white or other light colors to the inside so our heroes can write inside.
  • You must Sign you name on the back Small.  Let our Heroes know who cares.
  • I would prefer that you use Stampin' Up! product for this challenge but I am not limiting you.
  • You are also welcome to donate money or change to Operation Write Home for their postage cost, I will pass it on to them.
  • Casing is allowed but lets see how creative you are too.
  • I will do my best to add a new project to case each week.  (but this is a hectic time of year so no promises)
  • Email me if you are in for the challenge, and tell your friends to join the challenge. mistismemories@yahoo.com
  • I would like to mail off 1000 cards to Operation Write Home on June 14, 2010.
  • If I get 1000 cards the maker of my 1000th card will get a prize. As the cards come in I will let you know how many we have.
  • You can send cards all along as you make them which would be wonderful.  I know limited space issues, I will be glad to hold them for you.
  • If you have any questions contact me through email or on Facebook: Misti Houk
  • Ready, Set, Stamp!
Have Fun and let me see some great cards.

Congrats! Karen.

Karen Hill has won the Tart and Tangy Stamp Set.  We will have another give away soon.

Karen, this is what you won.
This is the stamp set Tart and Tangy.  Here is a card I have made with it.
I just love the cherries.

Congrats Karen! And I will have more blog candy in maybe a month.  Let me see what I can come up with for that one.

Thinking of you! Tulips

Just as I promised, a new card project.  Yeah!.  I saw the idea of making these tulips in several places and i have even thought of it before but today they inspired me.  It was a really quick and simple card using almost all scraps.  So it is economical and green too.  And as always, I will be sending this card to Operation Write Home for our heroes in  Iraq and Afghanistan to use to keep in touch with their love ones.  If you have time, I highly recommend that you check out this great organization and maybe make a few cards for them.
Recipe:
Ingredients:
  • Real Red classic ink #103133
  • Yo Yo Yellow classic ink# 102717
  • Pixie Pink classic ink # 105212
  • Scraps of Green Galore card stock #101325, Real Red card stock # 101190, Yo Yo Yellow #101608, Pixie Pink card stock #105236
  • XL Two Step Bird punch #118073
  • Scallop Edge Punch #112091
  • Word Window punch #105090
  • Real Red  3/4" Polka Dot ribbon #115608 6" long
  • Whisper White card stock #100730 cut 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" scored and folded at 4 1/4"
  • Brilliant Blue card stock #100691 cut 5 1/4" x 4"
  • Three Little Words stamp set #113254
  • Snail Adhesive#104332
  • Bone Folder #102300
  • Stampin' Dimensionals #104430
  • Paper Snips #103579
  • Stampin' Sponges #101610
Direstions:
  • On the Brilliant Blue card stock use the Scallop Edge punch on one of the long sides being careful to line up the punch correctly.
  • Using the Snail Adhesive on the back of the ribbon, glue down the Real Red 3/4" in Grograin ribbon close to the scallop edge on the Brilliant Blue card stock. Tuck in the edges on the back.
  • Take the scraps of Pixie Pink card stock, Real Red card stock, and the Yo Yo Yellow cardstock and punch 3 of each color of the wings from the XL Two Step Bird punch.
  • Then edge each wing with the matching color using a Stampin' Sponge cut down into 8ths.  Just dip the sponge into the corresponding ink and rub it on the edges of each wing.  These are your tulip petals.Take the scrap of Green Galore and just cut thin strips for the stems of the tulips.  I did gentle curves to look like fresh cut flowers.
  • Glue the 3 matching petals together using the Snail adhesive.  Just a click on the very bottom works. Then Glue the stem to the  bottom of each tulip.
  • Place a Stampin' Dimensional to the back of each tulip.
  • Glue each tulip stem with Snail Adhesive and the tulip itself with the Stampin' Dimensional  and tuck it into the top of the ribbon.  Repeat for all 3 tulips.
  • On a scrap piece of Whisper White card stock, stamp Thinking of You (or any of the messages) and punch it out with the Word Window and use the Snail adhesive to the card just above the ribbon.
  • Glue the Brilliant Blue to the Whisper White card.
Enjoy your card.  I hope you enjoy this card.

Remember the race to 500.  Last I checked we were at 466, so there are just over 30 more to go before somebody wins the special gift.  Remember if you are 500 email me to let me know who did it.
